Põltsamaa is known as the "royal city". In the 16th century there was the capital of the Livonian Kingdom and the residence of the Duke of Magnus. The ruins of a powerful castle still today give the city a royal look. Põltsamaa Castle was built in 1770 on the ruins of the former fortress. It was a representative three-story castle with a Rococo-style interior: the castle was at that time considered the most beautiful in the Baltics. It was destroyed in 1941; restoration work began in 1970.
In 1272, on the right bank of the Põltsamaa River, the Oberpalen Fortress was erected. The Castle Church of St. Nicholas was built around 1300 and burned down in 1600.
Since 1560, the oldest known description of the flag of the castle with the image of a rooster, a cross and a rat is known. Destroyed during the Polish-Swedish war in the 1620s. Swedish King Gustav II Adolf presented the ruins together with the surroundings to Hermann von Wrangel. Wrangel rebuilt the ruins in a Renaissance palace.
Near the castle a new church was built, connecting a large tower with a fortress wall and, according to some information, included the front gate of the Order Castle.
In 1794 Catherine II purchased Põltsamaa for her illegitimate son from Grigory Orlov Alexei Bobrinsky, who was exiled to Estland for his scandalous behavior.
In the 1770s, the next owner of the castle von Lau built on the castle ruins a representative three-story palace, considered at that time the most beautiful in the Baltics, with an interior in the Rococo style.
Parks were destroyed, bridges were built. A luxurious life beyond its means led the Lau family to bankruptcy, despite numerous manufactories based on the estate. For example, right on the territory of the castle was a workshop for the manufacture of porcelain.
Later the estate passed to the family of Prince Gagarin. In 1941, the castle of Põltsamaa burned down during military operations. In the 1970s and 1980s, works were carried out to conserve the ruins, auxiliary buildings were restored, an art gallery, an art school, a museum and a wine cellar were opened. The yard became a place for concerts and celebrations.

Город сад.В Нём находится один из самых передовых питомников роз ,разводят розы и селекционируют ещё со времён СССР для северных регионов и стран.
С июля по поздний октябрь город утопает в них. smile my variant of the photo

не понял к чему это,но да ладно.
В эстонском как и в финском,шведском.норвежском и немецком читаются все буквы,как и пишутся,нет этого аглицкого и китайского безобразия заборного,но отношение примерно то же к лоботрясам

Я немецкого не знаю, ну, кроме, шнеллер и их бин доктор, но скажу насчёт того, что буквы читаются, как пишутся. Довелось жить на Чоккегассе, так "ч" передавалось чуть ли не пятью буквами, так же и с "ш". А стену справа лучше бы выпрямить.

Теперь качественно, и настроение немного есть, но на старый замок мало походит, скорее заброшенное строительство больницы №16. Сто лет назад был в Хаапсалу - запомнилось тишиной и безлюдьем.

сейчас Хаапсалу не узнать,хорошо за него взялись в плане восстановления и реконструкции,так что повторите поездку,проминад вдоль бухты точно запомнится smile handshake
Эта церквушка помоложе ,старая сгорела.а стены ...качественные ,так что время их плохо берёт
