Nice shot, Andre!

What are your impressions of using GIMP? Is it usable enough, compared to Photoshop?

Andre Schwaller Andre Schwaller #9 mon 15 Dec 2014 17:02

I used to use Photoshop a long time ago.
But then since I do not earn money with my pictures and there is only subscription on Photoshop... Gimp is an nice replacement. It is different as photoshop. I did hate to learn gimp but after a while you get used to it. Today I prefer Gimp and would not go back.
I gave up LR for Capture One Pro which is by far better for my Fuji sensor, also I like the workflow of Capture one pro by far better. This is personal taste sure. But from Photoshop going to Gimp you will hate it for a while.
Just that you know Gimp can do almost everything as Photoshop sometimes easier but maily different sometimes complicated. Some stuff Gimp can do where you have no option in photoshop.

Try it but give some month of patience.

Thank you Andre for your inspiring answer! User interface isn't the biggest problem, I think.
I want to try GIMP with Ubuntu and hope to be able to calibrate my monitor also. Really, open soft becomes more powerful and more usable.
As an alternative of Photoshop I use Corel PaintShop. It's much more affordable!

Andre Schwaller Andre Schwaller #16 mon 15 Dec 2014 22:12

I use Fedora and there was no problem to calibrate the monitors. Also Gimp is running faster on Linux as on Windows.
I never used Corel PaintShop.

Well Iceland is very nice and is addictive!
I would also like to explore Kamchatka Peninsula (is on my todo list). But I need some time for me to prepaire the trip.
There are so many places on this world I want to see and take pictures.... my list is endless.
